Without an Exact Birth Time
An hour of error moves a line further than most countries are wide. Here is what survives.
You can read a map without an exact birth time — but not the same map. Sidereal time advances 15° an hour, so one hour of error moves every line about 1,670 km at the equator. Cosmiclogy measures that for your chart and tells you which of three readings your birth time can actually support, rather than drawing lines it cannot stand behind.
Why an hour matters this much
The whole technique is pinned to sidereal time, which advances 15° every hour. Your birth time does not adjust a map that would otherwise be roughly right — it decides where the map is drawn at all.
“Around nine in the morning” is an uncertainty wider than most countries. Almost every free map online will draw a line through a named city anyway, and say nothing about it.
What Cosmiclogy does instead
It measures. The engine recomputes the entire geometry at both edges of the window your stated time implies, at the latitude you are asking about, and reports what actually moved. Three kinds of reading fall out of that, and which one you get is a fact about your birth record — never a judgement about you.
| Tier | What can honestly be said |
|---|---|
| Anchored exact to the minute |
A line through a named city is a real claim. Lines, crossings, local direction and timing windows are all available. |
| Regional rounded |
Lines are discarded outright — at this precision one moves about 1,580 km, which is no evidence at all. Bands move about half a kilometre and still reach 60–80% of cities, so cities can still be named; they are earned by the band they sit on rather than by a line through them. |
| Latitude only date only |
Nothing that depends on the Earth's rotation. What survives is real: which threads are strong in you, and the north–south bands they run along. |
This is not hedging, and the distinction matters. A soft birth time does not make the same reading less certain — it makes a different reading true. You get that reading in full, not a watered-down version of somebody else's with “possibly” added.
What it will not do
It will not infer a fact about your birth. The measurement reads rounding out of a stated time — a certificate can read 9:00 and be exactly right. What it sets is what we may claim, which is a decision about our honesty and not a statement about you.
And at a rounded time it will not quietly supply a city from general knowledge. If lines are the only thing that could have reached somewhere, we say we cannot speak about it — because a place nothing measurable reaches and a place that scored badly look identical in a pair of numbers and mean opposite things.
Common questions
Can I use astrocartography without knowing my birth time?
Yes, and you will get a real reading rather than a disclaimer — but a different one. Without a time, nothing that depends on the Earth's rotation survives. What remains is which threads are strong in you and the north-south bands they run along. With a rounded time, bands survive and still reach 60-80% of cities, so places can still be named.
How wrong can an astrocartography map be with a rounded birth time?
About 1,580 km for a line, which is the width of a continent and therefore no evidence at all. A band over the same uncertainty moves roughly half a kilometre. That is why Cosmiclogy discards lines at that tier and builds the reading on bands instead.
Should I get my birth time rectified?
It is worth checking your birth certificate or hospital record first, since that settles it for free. Rectification is an inference, not a record, and a rectified time carries the confidence of the method that produced it — not the confidence of a document.
Does a rounded birth time make the reading less accurate?
It makes a different reading true, which is not the same thing. The findings that survive are stated with full confidence; the ones that cannot survive are removed rather than hedged.
